The entire Hoyers’ collection, which contains historical photographs of the 200 executed in Kaisariani as well as important documents, was presented at a special event at the Ministry of Culture, with Lina Mendoni accompanied by Stavroula Fotopoulou (Director of Modern Cultural Heritage), Maria Mertzani (Head of the Conservation Department), photographer Socrates Mavromatis, and historian researcher from the National Research Foundation, Valentin Schneider.
These unique historical artifacts were initially discovered being sold in an auction on eBay by a Belgian collector.
The Greek government was immediately informed and, with the assistance of the Greek Embassy in Belgium, completed the acquisition process in just two weeks.
In total, the Greek state received 262 photographs, 16 documents, and 4 old banknotes. This collection represents invaluable historical evidence that sheds light on the final moments of the heroes of Kaisariani and strengthens national historical memory.
