Weather changes, temperatures drop – Areas expected to experience rain and thunderstorms

Weather deteriorates in many parts of the country today, Saturday (04/07), despite the arrival of July.

Specifically, temperatures are slightly declining, while rain and thunderstorms are expected to occur until midday, with weakening conditions from the afternoon onwards. The areas affected are: the Peloponnese, Central Macedonia, Eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia, Central Greece, the Ionian Islands, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the Northern and Eastern Aegean, and Crete.

Weather forecast for Saturday (04/07)

In the Peloponnese, scattered thunderstorms are expected, possibly temporarily strong during midday and afternoon hours. In Central Macedonia, Eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia and gradually Central Greece, the Peloponnese, the Ionian Islands, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the Northern and Eastern Aegean, and Crete, increased cloud cover with local rain and scattered thunderstorms is forecast. From the afternoon onwards, these phenomena will gradually weaken and in most areas will stop. In the rest of the country, generally fair weather is expected.

Winds will blow from northerly directions at 3–5 Beaufort and in the seas 6, locally up to 7 Beaufort.

Temperatures will slightly decrease in mainland areas. They will reach 30–33°C in island regions and 34–35°C in mainland areas.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

Weather: In Central Macedonia and gradually in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, locally increased cloud cover with local rain and mainly during midday–afternoon isolated thunderstorms. Conditions will ease during the night. In Western Macedonia, generally fair weather with temporary clouds.

Winds: Northerly 3–5 Beaufort, and in Central Macedonia in the morning locally up to 6 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 20 to 34°C, locally up to 35°C. In Western Macedonia, 2–3 degrees lower.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Generally fair. During midday–afternoon, especially in Western Central Greece, Western Peloponnese and southern Ionian Sea, locally increased cloud cover with local rain and scattered thunderstorms, possibly temporarily strong in Western Peloponnese.

Winds: Northeasterly 3–5 Beaufort and in the Ionian northwesterly locally 6–7 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 21 to 33°C, and inland up to 34–35°C. In Epirus inland, 2–3 degrees lower.

THESSALY, EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: In Eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia and gradually Eastern Central Greece and Eastern Peloponnese, locally increased cloud cover with local rain and scattered thunderstorms, possibly temporarily strong in Eastern Peloponnese. From the afternoon, conditions will gradually weaken and mostly stop.

Winds: West-northwesterly and in eastern areas northeasterly 4–5 Beaufort, locally up to 6.

Temperature: From 21 to 35°C.

CYCLADES, CRETE

Weather: Generally fair with temporary clouds, mainly in Crete during midday–afternoon, where local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas.

Winds: West-northwesterly and gradually north-northwesterly 4–6 Beaufort, locally up to 7 in northern areas.

Temperature: From 23 to 31°C and in Crete up to 32–33°C.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

Weather: Generally fair with temporary cloudiness, mainly in the northern islands of the Eastern Aegean where local showers or isolated thunderstorms may occur.

Winds: Northerly 4–6 Beaufort, locally up to 7 in northern areas.

Temperature: Up to 33–34°C.

ATTICA

Weather: Initially fair. Cloud development at midday with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Improvement from late afternoon.

Winds: Northerly-northeasterly 3–5 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 24 to 32–33°C.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Few clouds, temporarily increased with a chance of local showers in surrounding mountainous areas during midday–afternoon.

Winds: Northwesterly 4–5 Beaufort, locally up to 6 in the morning.

Temperature: From 23 to 33–34°C.

Weather on Sunday (05/07)

In Central Macedonia (mainly Halkidiki), Eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, Northern Evia and Eastern Central Greece, temporary cloudiness with local rain or possibly isolated thunderstorms, improving from the afternoon. In the rest of the country, generally fair weather with temporary clouds in Crete and during midday–afternoon in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the Peloponnese, Western Central Greece and southern Ionian Sea, where local rain or showers will occur.

Winds will blow from northerly directions at 5–7 Beaufort and in the Aegean temporarily up to 8 Beaufort.

Temperatures will slightly decrease further in the north and east and will not exceed 33–34°C.
