The 60-year-old stationmaster who was on duty on the night of the Tembi tragedy was served with a summons to appear at the trial on March 23, 2026.

The summons for the trial scheduled for 23 March 2026 was delivered on Thursday to the 60-year-old stationmaster who was on duty on the night of the Tempi rail disaster.

According to the Athens – Macedonian News Agency, the summons marks another step in the gradual progression of the judicial process, bringing the case of the deadly collision closer to its hearing.

Summonses will be sent to the remaining defendants in the coming period. For the two Italian defendants, the case file must first be translated before it can be served.

The trial will take place at the former conference center of the University of Thessaly, on the “Gaopolis” campus, and 36 defendants will stand trial, facing the following charges, depending on the case:

  • Dangerous disruption of rail transport involving possible intent, through acts endangering the safety of the service, which resulted in:
    a) the death of a large number of people,
    b) serious bodily harm to a large number of people and significant damage to public-utility infrastructure,
    c) the potential risk to additional persons, and
    d) the potential for widespread damage to third-party property,
    committed repeatedly and in concert.

  • Manslaughter by negligence, in succession.

  • Serious bodily harm by negligence, by a person with a duty of care, in succession.

  • Simple bodily harm by negligence, by a person with a duty of care, in succession.

  • Breach of duty, committed in concert.
