Police have detained two suspects, who are being questioned at the Athens Security Sub-directorate, over the death of the 59-year-old driver on Saturday afternoon on Soulie Street in Neos Kosmos.
A third suspect is being sought.
Camera footage shows two motorcycles with three young men following the victim, and indicates that a dispute had preceded the assault. The attackers then struck him with punches to the face and head.
It is likely the young men believed the victim had just cut them off on the road and attacked him. As the 59-year-old tried to drive away afterward, he lost consciousness on Soulie Street and crashed into a parked vehicle. He was taken to Evangelismos Hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest.
The investigation is ongoing, with police taking statements from eyewitnesses, analysing video evidence, and examining the two detained suspects.
