The Hellenic Transplant Organization raised the alarm for a couple in urgent need of a liver transplant after suffering acute liver failure following the consumption of mushrooms.

A couple in northern Greece—a 65-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman—was diagnosed with acute liver failure after eating mushrooms.

According to information, they were transferred to AHEPA Hospital, where they are currently being treated, after consuming mushrooms during an event involving mushroom gathering and eating in a region of northern Greece.

An immediate alert was issued by the Hellenic Transplant Organization (EOM), as both individuals must undergo an urgent liver transplant.

According to information from NEWS 24/7, the woman has already been accepted by a transplant center in Italy, with EOM urgently preparing the process for her air transport.

At the same time, the Organization is in contact with transplant centers in Italy so that her husband can also be accepted.
