The strike was initially called for a 48-hour period by the Panhellenic Federation of Professional Taxi Drivers (ΠΟΕΙΑΤΑ), demanding urgent action on a series of issues. The federation’s key requests include:
- Extension of the electric vehicle mandate until 2035.
- Combatting unfair competition posed by multinational ride-hailing services.
- Immediate action against the theft of work by private cars (E.I.X.).
- Increase in fare rates and the minimum rental charges across the country.
- Re-negotiation for allowing loaded taxis into dedicated lanes.
- Implementation of outstanding issues from pending legislative bills.
- Adjustment of taxi fare tariffs.
- Fair tax treatment for the sector.
The drivers are demanding a meeting with the Ministry of Transport, and if their demands are not addressed, they are prepared to escalate their actions further .
