No taxis in Attica for the third day
SOOC

The taxi drivers’ strike continues today, Thursday (March 19), only for the Attica region, while in the rest of the country, taxis are returning to the streets until further notice.

The strike continues today, Thursday (March 19), but only in Attica, as the nationwide strike will end at 5 a.m., and taxis will return to the roads in the rest of the country.

According to an announcement by the Panhellenic Federation of Taxis, the unions in the rest of Greece will stop the strike and will return with renewed actions next week, especially on the day when the controversial bill, which has sparked strong reactions from taxi drivers and owners, will be voted on in Parliament.

Why Taxi Drivers are Striking

In an announcement issued by the Panhellenic Federation of Taxis on Monday (March 16), when the start of the nationwide strike was announced, they stated the following:

“Following a unanimous decision by the Board of Directors of the Federation and in full alignment with the decision of the Sectoral Council, we are starting nationwide strike actions from Tuesday, March 17, and for as long as the bill is being discussed in the committees of the Parliament in the coming days.

Especially on the day when our representatives will be in the committees of the bodies to present our objections, the entire sector will be outside, as well as on the day the bill is voted on.

We do not agree with:

  • The mandatory electric vehicles clause in Article 67 without any extension.
  • The provisions of Article 52 that favor private cars with drivers.
  • The additions regarding offenses related to the special license in Article 41.

We call on all unions nationwide to participate and support all the strike actions for the just demands of our sector. Tomorrow afternoon (i.e., Tuesday), after the first meeting of the committees, you will be informed about the progress of the developments and the continuation of our actions and mobilizations.”
