The independent MEP Nikolas Farantouris is joining PASOK.
According to sources, Androulakis will meet with Farantouris this afternoon (Thursday, 30th April) at 17:30 in Parliament, marking the official political alliance in the wake of recent statements by Farantouris.
Nikolas Farantouris: “I Join PASOK’s Voice”
Speaking to the radio station Parapolitika 90.1, Farantouris, when asked about the rumors that suggest he would announce his joining PASOK in the coming days, said: “I will not remain independent forever. I join my voice with PASOK, and this is required by the circumstances, with transparency and for political change, and not only for that.”
He further emphasized, “In this necessity and call, no one should be absent,” continuing, “PASOK is the only structured pole that can guarantee political dynamism, with a government program, organization, bodies, structure, and strategic goals leading up to the elections.”
However, he clarified that he will not participate in the next elections: “As a fresh Member of the European Parliament, I have issues to finalize. I will continue my term,” he added.
“I have said that I do not intend to participate in the next national elections because I am relatively new to the European Parliament, and I have opened many issues that I would like to complete. I believe that significant work can be done from this position in the European Parliament. My goal and plan are to continue my term and contribute through this capacity. I see the political necessity for unity and rallying around a serious and strong pole that guarantees this political change. Because an alternative government proposal, an alternative government program, should be guaranteed by someone on the way to the election, and this space is PASOK, and the party of the Official Opposition. Parliamentarily, in terms of polling, institutionally, and programmatically, it has the guarantees, the program, the personnel, the leadership, the regional structure, and above all, it has positions with which I believe I can move forward towards this direction,” he emphasized.
He also mentioned the bleak situation in the country and noted: “Some of us have a priority to help the homeland, but everything has limits. The ‘insults’ concerning issues related to institutions have reached here. The battle continues.”
This covers the key points of the article, highlighting Farantouris’ political shift to PASOK and his reasons for doing so.
