Bad weather: When will the phenomena ease – The weather pattern changes again in October

Falling temperatures, thunderstorms, hail and intense lightning activity are shaping the weather scene, with more than 25,000 lightning strikes recorded across the country in recent hours.

The weather phenomena are expected to continue over the coming hours, while a new deterioration is forecast from midnight and into Wednesday.

The prolonged spell of fair weather has given way to the first strong autumn rains and thunderstorms, with several areas on heightened alert.

As ERTnews meteorologist Nikoleta Zakopoulou noted, the weather is typical for the season, although conditions in some areas are intense and require caution.

Strong thunderstorm cells are being observed over the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Central Greece, the Peloponnese and Kythera, while the phenomena are expected to continue in the coming period.

In Attica, there have been showers and intense lightning activity in some areas, although no significant rainfall totals have been recorded.

New deterioration from midnight – When will the phenomena ease?

The weather phenomena are expected to gradually weaken during the evening in most parts of the country. However, a new deterioration is forecast from midnight and throughout Wednesday.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected mainly in Halkidiki, the Sporades, Magnesia and Evia, while thunderstorms are also forecast in Crete.

Temperatures will remain low for the time of year, with the mercury reaching up to 26 degrees Celsius during the afternoon.

From Thursday, an improvement in the weather and sunshine are expected, although the cold will be noticeable overnight and in the early morning hours. In northern and mountainous areas, temperatures could even approach 0 degrees Celsius.

A new deterioration with rain may occur on Friday in western Greece, with the latest forecast models expected to provide more information over the coming days.

Sakis Arnaoutoglou’s forecast – How will October begin?

Meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou is giving a similar outlook, noting that around midday on Wednesday, September 23, the instability will shift toward Crete.

In the rest of the country, the chances of heavy rainfall are expected to be very low. The same applies to Attica.

Cold northerly winds of 6-7 Beaufort will prevail over the Ionian and Aegean seas, while temperatures are expected to drop further and could approach freezing (0°C) in parts of central and northern Greece.

Indicatively, the minimum temperatures recorded during the summer, 22 degrees Celsius, have now become maximum temperatures.

On Thursday, September 24, the weather will be good, but it will change again from Friday morning, September 25. This will mainly affect western and northwestern Greece, where rain and thunderstorms will be more intense, while “some showers will reach western and central Macedonia.”

Rain is expected in the Peloponnese on the night of September 25, while on Saturday morning (September 26) it will affect the eastern mainland. In Attica, there is a possibility of local rain, but it will not be anything significant, according to the forecast.

By Sunday, September 27, rain is expected in Evia, the Sporades, eastern Boeotia and possibly the eastern and northern parts of Attica on the morning of Sunday, September 28.

As for the overall weather trend, based on the latest forecast data, it appears that October will begin without rain, while temperatures may reach 27-28 degrees Celsius in low-lying mainland areas.
