A shooting incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 23, in the Mikrolimano area of Piraeus, leaving one man injured and prompting a major police response.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. outside a local establishment during an operation conducted by officers from the Extortion Crimes Unit of Greece’s Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
Police reported that during an attempted check, the suspect allegedly drew a firearm upon seeing the officers, leading to an exchange during which he was injured. The man was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, officers discovered three firearms in the suspect’s possession. In addition, a bag containing six hand grenades was found at a nearby location, raising serious security concerns.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were immediately dispatched to the scene, while police cordoned off the surrounding area as a precaution.
Authorities have launched an ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether the suspect may be connected to organized criminal activity.
