According to reports, the man had been brought in for questioning in connection with her disappearance, but was later released. His death is believed to be a suicide, as a shotgun was found at the scene. The man had been under investigation from the outset. Police had conducted a search at his house on the night of Monday to Tuesday as part of the investigation into the disappearance. He had abrasions on his face and hands, which he explained by saying he had fallen off his motorbike. However, evidence suggests that on the morning of Sunday, the now deceased man, in an agitated state, had asked a café in the Athanaton area of Heraklion to call a taxi. Police searched security camera footage, and the taxi driver was called in for questioning.
After his initial questioning, he was released.
The timeline of the 43-year-old woman’s disappearance
The 43-year-old mother left her house on Sunday morning, a few minutes after 11 AM, driving her white Honda car, which has not been found to this day. According to Cretalive.gr, an initial search of security cameras showed the vehicle heading from Dafnes to Heraklion.
Her phone was still making calls until yesterday, but all the calls from her relatives went unanswered. The last recorded communication was a message the 43-year-old mother allegedly sent to her son, saying she would call him later. This is thought to be the standard message sent by the mobile service provider in response to an unanswered call.
The court was awaiting the last phone signal. On Monday, the 43-year-old was supposed to attend an important personal court case as a victim, but she never showed up at the Heraklion Court.
The last signal from her phone was traced to the area of Christos, near Mount Youchtas, but the coverage area of the antenna extends over a large radius of about ten kilometers.
Searches for the 43-year-old mother continue for a second day, with police forces and the 3rd EMAK (Special Disaster Response Unit) combing the area of the last phone signal. They are also waiting for further information from the mobile service provider to confirm the exact location of the phone. Additionally, efforts are ongoing to identify the location of her car, which is crucial to the investigation.
Drones have been deployed for the search, and Heraklion Security Police have conducted targeted searches on at least two individuals. Journalistic sources report that the investigation mainly focuses on the personal life of the 43-year-old mother.
The Smile of the Child’s announcement regarding her disappearance describes her as 1.70 meters tall, slim, with brown hair and brown eyes. When she disappeared, she was wearing black clothes and driving a 2001 white Honda HR-V with registration number YHM 6356.
