Kimolos: What Authorities Are Investigating into the Death of 17-Year-Old – Mayor Speaks Out

Authorities are focusing on the circumstances surrounding the tragedy in Kimolos, where a 17-year-old suffered a fatal electric shock while preparing to take a shower.

The tragedy occurred at the house where the teenager was staying with his mother during their summer holiday on the island. According to reports, the family lives permanently in Ireland and had travelled to Kimolos, his mother’s place of origin.

Investigators are now focusing on the water heater and the property’s electrical installation as a whole, in an effort to determine the source of the electrical leakage that is believed to have caused the teenager’s death.

Kimolos Mayor Konstantinos Ventouris referred to a conversation he had with the boy’s mother: “I said to her, ‘Was there nothing wrong? Had you felt any tingling or anything in the bathroom these past few days?’ She told me, ‘We had been using it for as many days as we were here and we had no problem.’”

“Whatever happened, happened instantly. It is an old house, built in the 1970s, possibly even earlier. The bathroom where it happened is outside, you know, detached from the main building,” he said.

According to Alpha, the island’s mayor himself had issued the certification for the upgrade of the property’s electrical installation.
