The 89-year-old man who opened fire at EFKA and the Court of Appeal sent a letter to the media, in which he talks about his legal battle with EFKA.

The 89-year-old man who stormed into EFKA in Kerameikos and the Court of Appeal in Loukareos sent a letter to the media.

In the letter, the 89-year-old expresses his grievance and anger over the fact that his pension was not approved.

“The public services, the Greek courts, and the Greek IKA treated me here in Greece […] like a stray dog, kicked and beaten. And I, the dog, have now gone mad and I am rabid, and one day I will go to their offices and bite them, so they can go mad too,” he states among other things in his letter.

The Letter from the 89-year-old

Gentlemen of the newspapers, good morning. I am P.K. I was born in Messinia in 1937 and became a soldier in 1959.

In 1962, I went to Berlin for work and school. In 1970, I traveled and settled in Chicago. In 2005, I applied for a pension in Chicago, and America granted me a pension in two months. I also submitted the German card in Chicago, and within six months, they sent me the mixed German pension.

At the same office and at the same time, along with the two cards, I submitted the Greek IKA: the insurance booklet and the sickness booklet. The Americans told me that they would send the documents to Greece, and they gave me two of the copies and some other documents. Since then, when they were sent to Greece, the big problems with the Greek IKA and Greek courts began.

The Greek IKA, this committee in Plateia Attikis, when they called me into their office, they cursed me in vulgar terms and called me a “traitor” for coming to Greece and asking for a pension; I cursed them back. And the Greek IKA, since they have the pen and the pen has the power, first forged a document and secondly sabotaged me by writing a letter to the German IKA stating that they would not grant me a Greek pension.

P.S. The public services, the Greek courts, and the Greek IKA treated me here in Greece—where I have lived for 20 years, with a pension from the USA of $2,600 a month for 20 years—more than half a million dollars—like a stray dog, kicked and beaten.

And I, the dog, have now gone mad and I am rabid, and one day I will go to their offices and bite them, so they can go mad too.

The rabid one.

The 89-year-old traveled to Patras by taxi

In 2018, he was committed to a psychiatric hospital under a prosecutor’s order after threatening the prosecutor in his legal battle over his insurance and placing four bullets on her desk.

Regarding his movements, the authorities concluded that all his trips were made by taxi.

Initially, it was determined that he took a taxi from the center of Athens to EFKA in Kerameikos, even telling the taxi driver to wait for him so they could leave for Patras afterward, which suggests that his actions were premeditated. He even booked a ticket for Italy from Patras, but the taxi driver couldn’t wait any longer because he was delayed and left.

He then took another taxi to Loukareos Street and the Court of Appeal. Afterward, the police concluded that he probably took a taxi again to Patras, as they conducted an investigation at the bus station and found no evidence that he left by bus.

The 89-year-old was arrested in Patras after six hours

After six hours, during which he freely roamed around Athens, the 89-year-old was located and arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports, the 89-year-old was found in a central hotel in Patras, near the bus station, and had a loaded .38 caliber revolver with him. He was reportedly planning to flee to Italy.

It is noteworthy that serious questions arise regarding how the 89-year-old managed to escape both locations unnoticed and remained an active threat in the city for several hours.

The attack on EFKA

The first incident occurred at EFKA in Kerameikos on Tuesday morning, when the 89-year-old man entered the building armed, went up to the fourth floor, and shot an employee in the leg, injuring him.

According to employee testimonies, the assailant entered, took out a shotgun, placed it on the counter, and after telling the employee in front of him to duck, fired towards the opposite side where his colleague was located, who was also injured in the leg.

The assailant immediately fled after the act.

As shown in the following video, the elderly man, after entering the EFKA office in Kerameikos, then calmly exits and crosses the Kiriadon street.

The attack on the Court of Appeal

Shortly afterward, the 89-year-old carried out a second armed attack, this time on the ground floor of the Court of Appeal on Loukareos Street.

There, the assailant entered the office 23 of the First Instance Court, shot and lightly injured four employees, left his weapon and some folders behind, and fled again. These folders reportedly contained newspaper clippings, which, as the assailant allegedly stated, explain the reasons why he attacked EFKA and the Court of Appeal.
