The weather for the May Day long weekend seems to be far from spring-like across the country, as the mild and warm weather so far will be replaced by more unstable and “autumn-like” conditions.
The high temperatures of the previous days will begin to subside, while rain, clouds, and stronger northerly winds will affect several regions, mainly from north to south.
“A Mini Fall” Starting Thursday
According to ERTE meteorologist Anastasia Tyraski, the weather change will begin on Thursday when cold air masses from the Balkans will start to affect the country.
She mentioned, “The weather will be spring-like until the May Day long weekend. That’s when it will change,” describing the onset of a “mini autumn.” The first rains will appear in Macedonia and gradually spread to Epirus, Thrace, Thessaly, and the northern Aegean.
On May Day, the cold front will affect almost the entire country, with clouds and local rain mainly in the eastern mainland and the Aegean. The northern winds will strengthen significantly, reaching up to 8 Beaufort, and the temperature will significantly drop, with maximum temperatures staying below 20°C. Similar weather is expected to persist on Saturday.
Temperature Drop and Strong Winds
On his side, meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis from Open TV notes that the weather will remain spring-like until Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 25-27°C.
However, from Thursday onwards, the scene will change, with the country being affected by a cold front that will bring rain and thunderstorms mainly to Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, Thessaly, and the northern Aegean.
The 6 Regions That Will Have Rain on May Day
On May Day, instability will spread to more regions, with rain mainly affecting the following 6 areas:
- Thessaly
- Attica and Boeotia
- Euboea
- Eastern Peloponnese
- Southern Peloponnese
- A large part of the Aegean
The temperature will not exceed 20°C, and the northerly winds will be particularly strong, causing possible difficulties in maritime travel.
On Saturday, the weather conditions will persist mainly from the Pindus mountain range and to the east, with strong winds being the main characteristic. However, from Sunday, improvement is expected, with more sunshine and a gradual increase in temperature, returning more spring-like conditions.
