Taxi drivers across Greece will proceed with a 48-hour strike on December 2 and 3, as announced days ago by the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers.
The federation’s announcement lists the drivers’ demands:
“The taxi sector has reached its limits!”
All avenues of dialogue with the competent ministries — especially the Ministry of Transport — have been exhausted, without any solutions provided for the problems affecting the daily life and survival of our members.
Our long-standing and fundamental demands regarding sustainability and day-to-day operation remain unresolved, despite the passing of several bills. The only responses we have received are extensions and calls for patience.
On Monday, November 24, the Federation’s Board of Directors convened and unanimously decided:
A 48-hour warning nationwide strike on Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3, with mobilizations across the country.
The initiation of procedures to convene a Sectoral Council to decide on continued, long-term industrial action.
The Board’s demands are as follows:
- Extension of the electric-vehicle mandate to 2035.
- Measures to tackle unfair competition from multinational ride-hailing platforms.
- Immediate decisions to combat work appropriation in the sector by private-use vehicles (E.I.X.).
- Increase in time-based charges and the minimum fare nationwide.
- Renegotiation of the entry of loaded taxis into dedicated lanes.
- Implementation of all pending provisions of the omnibus bill.
- Tariff adjustment.
- Fair tax treatment.
The Federation is also awaiting a meeting with the Ministry, with the participation of its Presidium and the heads of all factions.
If answers are not provided, the sector will unanimously and decisively determine its next steps.
