The accused, charged with attempted homicide, was sent to prison after the decision of the prosecutor and the investigating judge.
According to reports, the 16-year-old told the juvenile court that she carried the knife for self-defense and expressed regret for her actions. Additionally, a separate preliminary investigation is underway into the possibility of parental neglect in overseeing the minor.
The Incident
The serious act of violence occurred on Monday at the 15th Gymnasium in Kypseli, which shares a building with the 60th Gymnasium. The two students got into a fight when the 16-year-old pulled out a knife and wounded her 14-year-old classmate in the arm. An ambulance was called to the school and took the injured student to the Children’s Hospital.
Witness Testimonies
“A bell rang for us to enter the classroom, and I was going downstairs to get some water when I saw the two girls in a circle. The 16-year-old was shouting and insulting the 14-year-old. Then, she took out the knife and stabbed her in the stomach, then deeper in the arm,” said a student who witnessed the serious incident.
“Teachers arrived, took the 16-year-old to the principal’s office, and took the 14-year-old to the hospital because she was bleeding. Most of us at school were crying,” the witness added.
The 16-year-old, according to the witness, “was not bothered at all afterward, she was laughing as she walked away.” It is also noted that the 16-year-old was attending the school for the first time due to a change in her school environment. “I’ve heard she has done similar things to two other students before,” said the witness .
