The prosecutor in Patras is awaiting the forensic examiner’s report regarding the abuse case of the 10-month-old baby from Pyrgos. The examination is expected to take place today or tomorrow, and it will determine whether charges will be filed so that the 18-year-old Roma mother—who remains free and whose whereabouts are unknown—can be sought by the authorities.
Everything began on March 16, when a woman saw the 18-year-old with her 10-month-old baby girl in a square. She noticed that the child had a visibly neglected wound on her leg and called the police emergency service.
Officers from the DIAS unit brought in the mother and transported the infant to the Pyrgos Hospital, where doctors found a wound on the child’s leg and an extensive infection, but did not initially report signs of abuse.
The child received medical care, while the mother was arrested for exposing a minor to danger and was later released by verbal order until her trial.
Subsequently, it was deemed necessary for the child to be transferred to the Karamanandaneio Hospital in Patras. There, the doctor who examined the infant identified a fracture in the child’s leg as well as visible injuries and skin lesions indicative of abuse, as he stated in his testimony yesterday afternoon to the Patras Security Police.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old mother has disappeared and remains missing.
The investigation—being handled by the Patras Security Police—is in full progress to clarify the circumstances under which the child was injured.
