Σε δηλώσεις του στην τηλεόραση του ΣΚΑΪ ο Αθανάσιος Τσακρής, καθηγητής μικροβιολογίας, σημείωσε ότι είναι ανησυχητική η ένδειξη ότι έχουμε κρούσματα μέσα στην πόλη.
Όπως εξήγησε ο κ. Τσακρής, δεν υπάρχει κάποια ιδιαίτερη ένδειξη βάσει της οποίας μπορούμε να καταλάβουμε ποιο κουνούπι είναι μολυσμένο, ενώ τα συμπτώματα εμφανίζονται περίπου μία εβδομάδα μετά το τσίμπημα.
Όπως είπε, οι νέοι μπορεί να μην εμφανίσουν κανένα σύμπτωμα, ή να εμφανίσουν πυρετό.
Αντίθετα, επιπλοκές που μπορεί να οδηγήσουν ακόμα και σε μηνιγγίτιδα ίσως εμφανιστούν στους ηλικιωμένους.
Αναφερόμενος στη γυναίκα που προσβλήθηκε από τον ιό στο Παλαιό Φάληρο, ο κ. Τσακρής είπε ότι είναι σε πολύ καλή κατάσταση.
