Metro stations will be closed due to planned protests marking the 17th anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos.

The closures will begin at 17:00 on Saturday (6/12) as part of the gatherings and protests for the 17th anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos.
Specifically, according to the Greek Police, the following stations will close at 17:00:

  • The “Panepistimio” Metro Station
  • The “Syntagma” Metro Station

Trains will pass through these stations without stopping.

Due to the announced gatherings and marches, emergency traffic measures will be implemented on major roads in central Athens.

As noted in the related announcement by the Greek Police, “These traffic measures will be applied gradually, depending on the traffic conditions, and the Attica Traffic Directorate has planned and will implement measures to facilitate traffic in the broader area of central Athens. For this reason, drivers are advised to avoid moving and parking their vehicles in the areas surrounding the events, both for their own convenience and to avoid additional traffic problems.”

It is noted that at 18:00, the second march in memory of Alexis Grigoropoulos will begin, starting from the Propylaea.

At 21:00, the usual gathering will take place at the site of the murder, at the junction of Mesolongiou and Tzavella streets. According to an announcement from GADA (General Police Directorate of Athens), the measures will be applied to major roads in the center depending on traffic conditions. Panepistimiou and surrounding roads towards Omonia and Syntagma will be closed gradually.
