A 12-year-old boy was found dead in the Svala area of Samos after being struck by the propeller of the migrant boat on which he had been travelling.

An unspeakable tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Monday (8/12) on Samos, just a few days after the incident in Crete that left at least 17 people dead in a migrant shipwreck.

The Coast Guard located the body of the minor in the Svala area when they arrived at the spot where another 37 migrants had already reached the shore.

According to samos24.gr, the 12-year-old boy died a horrific death when he was hit by the propeller of the vessel that brought the migrants to the island. According to the first information from the Coast Guard, the migrants were disembarked in the area by a vessel whose operator, upon realizing that a Coast Guard patrol boat was approaching, fled and abandoned the vessel on a nearby beach.

A search has begun for the operator of the boat, in cooperation with the Hellenic Police. The boy’s body was taken by an EKAB ambulance to the General Hospital of Samos for a forensic examination.

The child’s body was collected by an ambulance and transported to the island’s hospital.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

The 37 migrants are expected to be transferred to the Samos Reception and Identification Center (KYT) for registration and standard procedures.
