The majority of farmers want to meet with Mitsotakis – What they decided about the rally

The nationwide farmers’ meeting in Palama, Karditsa, which had been described since yesterday as “decisive” for the next moves of the majority of farmers, came to an end.

According to initial reports, it was decided to form a committee of 25 farmers and other producers, as well as five observers, to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The farmers and livestock breeders, after suggestions from each blockade, are selecting the representatives who will attend the meeting.

It is now expected that the date of the meeting will be decided, with Friday being the most likely.

The farmers decided to leave as a last resort the descent with tractors and all means to Athens for a rally, as proposed by the Nice blockade.

In the meantime, the operation of the application is being extended, through which producers who declare agricultural plots of less than or equal to 20 acres, which do not have a valid KAEK, can submit the relevant Responsible Declaration of Agricultural Land Ownership digitally, through the EAE, on the special application of the AADE’s myBusinessSupport platform, as stated by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, after the end of the three-hour meeting with representatives of the minority blocs.

The meeting was held as a follow-up to yesterday’s meeting with the Prime Minister at the Maximos Mansion.

As Mr. Tsiaras stated, the 20-acre limit is guaranteed and will continue to apply for as long as the AADE has not completed the full implementation of the MIDAS (Property Ownership and Management Register) systems, while the use of the KAEK remains in place.

At the same time, he noted that it had been decided to set up joint committees, with the participation of representatives of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, farmers, and the Hellenic Cadastre, so that all issues could be discussed institutionally and resolved in good faith, in an organized and effective manner.

Speaking about the roadblocks, Mr. Tsiaras said that they are exposing themselves and should explain to society what is happening. He added that “de-escalation can be achieved through a different approach, mainly on the part of those who refused to sit down at the negotiating table yesterday.” “From the outset, we have stated that we are in favor of dialogue,” he continued, adding that “we are all judged by our choices.”

” The invitation to dialogue is ongoing,” stressed the Minister of Rural Development and Food, adding that there had been communication with those at the roadblocks. “I have reiterated the conditions,” he stressed, adding that “we will wait for their response.”
