Crime in Salamina: The elderly woman’s savings are missing – What “betrayed” the daughter-in-law

The 46-year-old who confessed to the murder of her 75-year-old mother-in-law inside her home in Salamina told the police of the Homicide Department that she was unable to take any money from the elderly woman’s house.

However, the authorities do not believe her for two reasons. During the subsequent search of her house, jewelry was found, which was identified by the daughter as belonging to her mother.

The couple had already returned 8,000 euros to the unfortunate elderly woman, but this money was not found in her home.

The accused claimed that the elderly woman financially helped her daughter as well. However, the police believe she may have taken some or even all of that money, as she managed to find and remove the jewelry. In the month that passed, she might have gambled this money away too.

Contrary to the 46-year-old’s claims that she was afraid the elderly woman recognized her, the audio footage recorded by the house’s camera is chilling and proves the daughter-in-law’s lies.

The elderly woman did not recognize her daughter-in-law and, in fact, thought the attacker was a man, as she is heard pleading not to be killed, addressing the 46-year-old as “my boy.”

She did not break down at any moment, even when she was being stabbed frantically, and the camera captured the victim praying while dying, saying the “Our Father.” The police describe this as an unjustified rage, as the elderly woman had been caring for and helping everyone.

The Area Cameras Betrayed Her

The 46-year-old admitted to the police that after committing the crime, she got into her father’s car and left. The area cameras betrayed her, as footage analysis revealed that her car was the only one moving in the area during the critical hours. Given that she was also suspected by family members, the authorities traced her down.

She went home, threw away her bloody clothes, gloves, and hood in a bag, and then disposed of it in the trash.

The police found blood stains in her car that did not belong to her and are awaiting forensic confirmation to identify whether the blood matches that of the victim.

So far, no accomplice has been identified, and it is believed she acted alone. She went to the elderly woman’s house on October 31, after first exploiting her access to the residence by redirecting the cameras to other areas, parked her car in a narrow street, walked from the mountain side to the house, broke the window, and entered with her face covered.

There, using threats, she demanded money from the elderly woman, who said she didn’t have any, and fearing the elderly woman had recognized her, despite wearing a hood, she struck her in the face and head with a bottle, and then stabbed her viciously in the head, neck, and ribs, causing the death of the elderly woman, who had mobility issues and was unable to defend herself.

The daughter of the 75-year-old woman seems to have suspected the daughter-in-law, and even expressed her suspicions to the authorities and the perpetrator. “We suspected her, and we went to the GADA (Athens Police Headquarters). I was looking for her that day, and she didn’t tell me anything. Everyone’s minds went to the fact that something was wrong. This girl had been part of our family for some years. I told her I suspected her,” she said in an interview with LIVENEWS.
