Urgent weather bulletin – Orange alert for heavy rain and storms

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issued an urgent weather deterioration bulletin on Sunday morning. Strong rains, storms, and gale-force southern winds are expected across much of the country.

The weather pattern is changing again, with the HNMS issuing on Sunday morning (25/1) an urgent weather bulletin accompanied by an “orange alert.”
According to this bulletin, heavy rain and storms are forecast for Monday (26/1) in many regions of the country.
Gale-force southern winds will blow today (25/1) over the Ionian Sea and on Monday (26/1) over the Aegean Sea.
More specifically, heavy rain and storms on Monday are expected:
- In western Greece until midday
- In eastern Macedonia from the morning, and from late morning in central Macedonia, with brief activity in Thrace
- On the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese from early afternoon
- In Crete (mainly western and southern parts) from late morning
- In Attica from morning until midday
Forecast for Sunday, 25-01-2026
- Eastern regions: Temporarily increased clouds with local rain, mainly in Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese.
- Rest of the country: Few clouds, temporarily increasing, which from the afternoon and from the northwest will intensify. By evening, a few local showers are expected in northern areas and possibly isolated thunderstorms at night over the northern Ionian.
Visibility: Locally limited in mainland areas in the morning, with possible fog formation.
Winds: From southern directions at 4–6 Beaufort, locally 7 in the seas, and temporarily up to 8 in the Ionian Sea.
Temperature: Slight increase. Northern regions 15–16 °C, elsewhere 17–19 °C, southern areas locally up to 20 °C.

Weather: Temporarily increased clouds with a few local showers in Thrace; later in the evening in other areas.
Winds: South 3–5 Beaufort, locally 6 in the afternoon.
Temperature: 5–16 °C (Western Macedonia 3–4 °C lower).
Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Central Greece, Western Peloponnese
Weather: Few clouds, temporarily increasing early morning and again in the afternoon; by evening, a few local showers in the northern Ionian and Epirus. Possible isolated thunderstorms at night in northern Ionian.
Winds: South-southeast 4–6 Beaufort; in the Ionian locally 7–8.
Temperature: 8–20 °C (interior Epirus 3–4 °C lower).
Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Euboea, Eastern Peloponnese
Weather: Scattered clouds, occasionally thicker.
Winds: South 4–5 Beaufort, locally 6–7 in the east and south.
Temperature: 7–19 °C (northern areas 2–3 °C lower).
Cyclades & Crete
Weather: Scattered clouds, occasionally thicker.
Winds: South-southeast 4–6 Beaufort, locally 7 in the afternoon.
Temperature: 14–20 °C.
Eastern Aegean Islands & Dodecanese
Weather: Temporarily increased clouds with a few local showers.
