Emergency work stoppage today on the Metro, Tram, and Electric Railway – What time services are halted

Athens Urban Rail Transport has announced an emergency work stoppage for today, Wednesday (26/11), following the fatal injury of an employee in Piraeus this morning.

Specifically, trains will halt services for six hours, from 12:00 to 18:00.

AURT’s announcement:

“We inform you that today, Wednesday 26/11, an emergency work stoppage will take place from 12:00 to 18:00 on Metro Lines 1 (Kifissia–Piraeus), 2 and 3, and on the Tram.”

It is noted that the fatal injury of the Athens Urban Rail Transport employee, a rolling-stock master technician, occurred during technical work at the company’s maintenance base in Piraeus, according to the relevant announcement.

Work stoppage on Metro, Electric Railway, and Tram also on Saturday – Which routes are affected

It is also noted that Athens Urban Rail Transport had already announced a work stoppage for Saturday night (29/11), when night services normally operate.

Specifically, employees of Fixed Track Transport across all lines (Line 1 – former Electric Railway, Lines 2 & 3 – Metro, Tram lines) will proceed with a four-hour warning work stoppage from 01:00 a.m. to 05:00 a.m., protesting “against the ongoing inaction and the inconsistent public statements of the political leadership of the Ministry of Transport.”

“It is unreasonable for the Ministry of Transport and the Athens Urban Rail Transport Administration to seek full implementation of 24-hour operation, while the following critical issues remain open and unresolved:

• Understaffing in all operational and maintenance specialties.
• Insufficient availability of trains capable of meeting service requirements.
• Non-recognition of established prior private-sector service time for newly hired employees in salary grade classification,” the announcement states.
