Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate on Friday, with rainfall, thunderstorms, powerful winds and localized hail affecting several parts of the country.
According to meteorologists, an upper-atmosphere disturbance will trigger a temporary change in weather patterns, leading to locally severe thunderstorms mainly across mainland Greece, strong winds over the seas and a slight drop in temperatures.
Forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens (Meteo.gr) indicate that rain and scattered thunderstorms will affect most mainland regions on Friday, while on Saturday the instability will gradually shift toward eastern and southern parts of the country.
The most intense weather is expected:
- Around midday Friday across central and northern mainland Greece, particularly in mountainous areas.
- During the morning hours of Saturday in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Eastern Thessaly (Magnesia), the Sporades islands, and northern and central Evia.
The storms may be accompanied by hail and locally heavy rainfall.
Winds are expected to strengthen over the northern Ionian Sea, while on Saturday northerly winds in the northern and central Aegean will reach up to 6 Beaufort.
The unsettled conditions will be short-lived. Western Greece is expected to see significant improvement on Saturday, while fair weather will prevail nationwide by Sunday, with only limited instability in southern mountainous areas. Temperatures are forecast to rise gradually again from Monday onward.
