Weather pattern set to change – When is rain expected?

A gradual change in the weather is expected across the country over the next three days, according to the latest forecast data from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).

While the week begins with high temperatures and plenty of sunshine, from Tuesday and especially Wednesday, atmospheric instability will intensify, bringing local rain and brief thunderstorms to mainland areas, along with a slight drop in temperatures.

Weather on Monday 07/09

The weather will be generally clear and summery across the country. Local clouds will develop over mainland areas during the midday and afternoon hours, mainly over mountainous regions. In the Aegean, northerly winds will blow at 4 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 Beaufort in the central/eastern Aegean. In the Ionian Sea, winds will be light and variable at 2 to 4 Beaufort.

On the mainland, the temperature will reach 33 to 35°C (up to 34°C in Attica and up to 31°C in Thessaloniki). In the islands, temperatures will range from 29 to 32°C.

Weather on Tuesday 08/09

The weather will be mostly clear across most of the country. From midday, clouds will develop over western, central and northern mainland areas, with a chance of local showers over mountainous regions.

The temperature will fall slightly in eastern and northern areas. Maximum temperatures on the mainland will range between 32 and 34°C.

Weather on Wednesday 09/09

In mainland areas, mainly in central and northern Greece, atmospheric instability is expected to increase. During the midday and afternoon hours, clouds will develop and local rain or brief thunderstorms are expected, mainly over mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. Elsewhere in the country and on the islands, the weather will remain generally clear.

A further slight drop in temperatures is expected, mainly in northern and central areas, bringing values back to normal levels for the season, at around 30 to 32°C.
